Michelle’s Shining Light

Our Partner and dear friend, Michelle Hanson, CPP, CHRS passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Michelle Hanson was optimistic, upbeat, humble and authentic. She had a bright spirit and truly appreciated her life, taking pleasure in simple things like the morning sunrise over the lake and spending time with her family and friends. Michelle was always grateful for the support and care she received at the Willmar Cancer Center, and wanted to find a way to show their team ongoing appreciation and gratitude. This sparked a project called Michelle’s Shining Light: finding light in a dark diagnosis. Michelle developed a vision for this project, and now her family, friends and colleagues are carrying out this mission. We miss Michelle dearly, and are grateful that we can help continue her legacy through Michelle’s Shining Light.

Michelle’s Shining Light in Action

Michelle’s first mission of thanking the Willmar Cancer Center for their continued support during her treatment was by delivering her favorite cupcakes from rosebud’s sweets & treats on May 3, 2023. The CDS Payroll and BPA team received a heartwarming note along with daisies and Michelle’s favorite drink.
November 8, 2023 – “Payroll is Cool” is something Michelle would often say. For Michelle’s birthday, the Payroll team, in their Payroll is Cool shirts, delivered blueberry donuts and Celsius energy drinks. March 30, 2024 – The Willmar Cancer Center team received an encouraging note, along with a Michelle’s Shining Light much, and white hot chocolate.
June 4, 2024 – On the one-year anniversary of Michelle’s passing, Becky, Sierra, and Lori delivered blueberry donuts.
